Abstract
The story collection The Girls Are Okay offers timeless narratives that encapsulate the nuances of womanhood. This manuscript of collected works features eight stories of the female gaze at junctions of pain, in tumultuous circumstances that define or alter identity. This collection explores memory, family dynamics, and the weights and obligations of relationships as powerful influences on female identity. Each story features the perspective of a woman responding to painful throes of life and a subsequent loss or lack of their own agency. The Girls Are Okay chronicles confrontations with grief and loss in various forms from death to divorce to coming-of-age.
