Abstract
Tiger Boy & Other Stories is a collection of fiction that finds its roots in upstate South Carolina. In the title story, a fourteen-year-old boy journeys into the treacherous halls of high school with his best friend, a wildly popular and sharply dressed tiger who walks on his hind legs. “Wonder Woman & Alvin Try to Save the Day” follows a middle schooler as he battles his nerves to ask a classmate to the school dance and his conflicting emotions concerning his parents’ subsequent separation. A woman becomes a viral internet sensation with her ability to kiss away the weight of other people in “One Kiss!” And in the final piece, “Taco Tuesday,” the narrator welcomes the emergence of a sea monster as he navigates a budding relationship with his best friend. In each story, these young characters find themselves at a crossroads reckoning with their desires and confronting their consequences on the world around them.
