Together as One: Stories of Youth is a collection of works covering the beginnings of a novel, multiple short stories, and flash fiction. It is designed to showcase the author’s knowledge of craft elements in the field of creative writing fiction. The overall theme of the collection is centered around the struggles youth face when developing into the adult world. This theme is often supported by an overall voice of adolescent dialogue conflicting with a more mature adult tone. The stories in the collection encompass different points of view from first person singular, second person, and third person, as well as changes in narrative style. One story, “The Garden,” makes use of the third person objective style paying homage to Hemingway’s “Hills like White Elephants.” Another story, “Money can buy Happiness,” uses the craft element of magical realism, suspending disbelief, making the unbelievable seem normal in the universe of the story.
