The University Heights community fabric must be preserved; in addition, the community needs additional mixed-income housing, educational opportunities, and commercial activity. The design must celebrate the memory of a welcoming neighborhood and make this memory a reality once again. The relationship between the institutions and the community has a reputation of inactivity. The previous residential and industrial business site is now eligible as an incentive area for “Live and Stay Local”. As Newark continues to provide programs as such, it embraces the town and gown relationship. The proposed plan is to help eliminate division, displacement, create opportunities, and encourage community fellowship supporting the Newark Alliance mission.
