Abstract
The Cooper River Bridge Redevelopment Plan (CRBRP) is designed to restore and introduce the urban fabric that was lost due the construction of the original Cooper River Bridge in the Eastside Neighborhood of downtown Charleston, South Carolina. This area is dealing with issues such as gentrification, a lack of affordable housing, flooding, and an influx of people moving to the area. To mitigate these concerns, the CRBRP will build a mixture of housing for people of varying income levels, corner stores, safe streets for pedestrians and bicyclists, and flood control systems. The CRBRP will learn from the history of the area by including the community in the discussion of how the area should be developed.
